Hex to Team

Have a color and want to know which team it belongs to? Enter any hex code and we'll rank the sports teams whose published colors are the closest perceptual match, measured by ΔE color distance.

Frequently asked questions

How does the closest-match ranking work?
Your hex code is converted to the CIELAB color space, and we compute the CIE76 ΔE (Delta-E) distance to every published team color. A lower ΔE means a closer perceptual match — under about 2 is nearly indistinguishable to the human eye.
Why do multiple teams share almost the same color?
Sports branding leans on a fairly small set of primaries — cardinal red, navy, royal blue, forest green — so many teams land within a few ΔE of one another. That is why the results are ranked rather than a single answer.
What counts as a good match?
ΔE under 1 is not perceptible, 1–2 is barely perceptible, and 2–10 is perceptible at a glance but still clearly the same color family. Anything above roughly 10 is a visibly different color.
